In a panic I jumped to my Pinterest and went to the lace and needlework board and looked for anything that looked like your photo, as these are the photos of yours I connect to. I found one banner photo, that may have been yours, and deleted it. I didn't know it was your photo, there was no tracing it to you. I looked for any others, and could not find anything, if there is any others, let me know and I will gladly delete them. I do not want to offend you. People can take your ideas and copy them, I better be on the look out for that. But that requires me to read your blog everyday, and I am not a daily blog reader anywhere. Again, I am sorry.

MarcieThe Rustic Victorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11061053386942991282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-23983623247859677122012-07-27T13:25:43.710+01:002012-07-27T13:25:43.710+01:00Oh Hen - thank you so much for posting this reply....Oh Hen - thank you so much for posting this reply. I don't recall ever saying that people were trying to pass of other creations as their own. I just didn't want my photographs there - hundreds and hundreds of them taken from Flickr (which is a very different concept)over the years. When I started this blog they were being taken every day from here too. I am not selling anything or promoting anything - I am simply sharing and wished that sharing to remain here. It is a bit odd to me that I have to justify that. I have repeatedly said that I am only toooooo pleased when someone uses the same idea and makes their own - that is the idea behind this blog. It got to the point where I felt that my blog was pretty redundant as it was clearly only the photographs that people were interested in - no please or thank you was given. That is me being naive I think. I have been taken aback my the emails that I have received (not always pleasant) where people have asked me to justify the reason why I don't want my own photographs being used elsewhere. What a strange world we live in I think. I am sure that most people on that site have checked out the copyright and asked permission - as far as I know only one person has ever done that with my photographs.

I know that I have been selfish with this blog and stupid too - I have felt that self -centred ego boost when people have made nice comments about things that I have made. It has been odd seeing people who have used my photographs having the nice comments and 'well dones' and 'don't you find the best things' and 'please let me know how you made this?'.

I need to do some more soul searching as to why I have a blog in the first place and have a re-think (yet again!).

Many thanks
JennyThe Custardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17632655608950737315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-37312172455337754992012-07-27T12:21:16.817+01:002012-07-27T12:21:16.817+01:00Well, I'm a very recent viewer of your blog an...Well, I'm a very recent viewer of your blog and am astounded by the vast collection of beautiful vintage you have collected over the years. You must live in a part of the country that is just stuffed with beautiful things - I'm also a collector of vintage crafty and have been for many years but my treasures wouldn't fill a couple of your shelves. I have to say that I can quite understand others wanting to add some of your lovely photos to their Pinterest inspiration boards. Maybe I'm naive and too trusting (living in rural North Wales far from sophisticated folk) but I love Pinterest and was certainly not aware that pinners were trying to pass off others' creations as their own. I thought the whole point was to use it as you would a pinboard in your kitchen or craft room where pages from magazines, scraps of fabric, ephemera and photos could be pinned to give pleasure or ideas when you are feeling uninspired. And let's face it, before Pinterest we could pin (save) things we liked to folders on our PCs without anyone ever knowing about it.

Well I'm sure we will have to agree to disagree over this topic, and you do seem to have a lot of people agreeing with you, but I have to say that reading some of the posts and comments has taken away some of the pleasure I have had pinning beautiful things (not yours of course) to my boards and also the feeling of pride (is that bad of me) I have when I see something I've created has been enjoyed and pinned to another crafter's board.

As they say in the "good ol' US of A" - just my 2 cents worth!Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07549006313944585453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-40399619632396758182012-07-23T16:20:04.830+01:002012-07-23T16:20:04.830+01:00Crikey Jenny, I pop off to France for 10 days and ...Crikey Jenny, I pop off to France for 10 days and look what's being going on! It is strange how people choose to use others' photos. To me, a blog is your own business and reflects oneself so why would there be images on there that belong to someone else? I am most puzzled by blogs which solely use others' photos and point you to others' blogs. Eh?

Goodness knows what has happened to my photos, I can't bear to really think about it. I have had to accept people will copy my photos if I put them on the 'net but to take them and not acknowledge they belong to me, I find not acceptable at all, in fact very annoying. There was that freaky time when you let me know that somebody was using one of my photos as their blog header. What a cheek! A few weeks back, I clicked onto a blog and there in the sidebar were a load of my photos. It's an awful feeling when that happens and makes me feel like giving up. I politely emailed the person in private and asked her if they were mine and if so, would she kindly remove them. I don't doubt she had probably meant no harm but then she just hadn't thought about it at all. She replied that she didn't know if they were my photos or where she'd got them from, she just liked them, but would remove them if I wanted her to. I thought this quite nutty, if she didn't know where the photos were from, she presumably knew at least that they weren't hers, so what was she doing assuming rights over them?

Sigh. I fear there is no answer to this one.

Hen xxxHenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09785129568184134280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-66410609014879984552012-07-23T05:55:47.852+01:002012-07-23T05:55:47.852+01:00Oh Jane - thank you so much. I have only recently realised how many of my photographs had been taken elsewhere and not one person had ever commented to say even thank you, let alone anything else on flickr. Yet on that other site I see the person who had taken the photographs had been praised and told how great there work is. I just feel the whole thing is very unfair and ethically a bit bizarre. The comments that I have had saying that it is like an old scrapbook I find to be cods wallop - could not be further from reality in my book. But I am puzzled as to why you are spending so much time and anxiety on this problem with Pinterest and Flickr. I agree with the comment above that "nothing is or can be private on the internet" and if you place photos on the net then you have to expect that they are not private any more. For this reason I have never posted a photo of my son on the internet but happily post photos of my dolls and crafts, if someone wants to pin the photo then so be it. I feel life is too short to waste on getting so upset about it. If you don't want your photos copied/pinned/saved/etc then don't post them (which would be a huge shame as they are lovely). Flickr is my favourite online site, I love sharing photos and commenting on others and have a ton of 'favourites' marked which is very similar to pinning them. I see pinterest as a scrapbook, much the same if I had gone through a magazine and cut out inspiring pictures (and if people put photos in a magazine they would expect them to be cut out, surely?). I've been reading your angst over several posts now and I have to say that I honestly don't see why you are so upset over it. Yes the photos are yours but you have shared them with the world on your blog and flickr. If you don't want to share them, don't post them. Even if Pinterest delete them, they are still 'out there' on google images, etc, and can be copied and saved. I think you have got to either accept it or accept that the internet is not for you and stick to craft/vintage fairs to share your wares.Kayjayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00525513989407522330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-34786578186365961252012-07-19T22:12:45.230+01:002012-07-19T22:12:45.230+01:00Hi, I think your blog is great, I decided some tim...Hi, I think your blog is great, I decided some time back not to jump on the pin interest band wagon because of all the negativity I had been reading surrounding it. Even when you ...I know it is extremely frustrating. Even when you have a blog it is open to the world. I was thinking and talking with my daughter about this situation. We were discussing how nothing is or can be private on the internet. There are too many tech savvy people that can bypass the simple ways we have to protect ourselves. Once anything is posted on the internet it is at the hands of the entire world. We can't see where you will ever get to the end of it. The internet has taken away all privacy. Even our tv.s are hooked up to boxes that record what we watch and phones and etc. I do understand how you feel.
We have a small business and constantly have to come up with new product as we are copied continually. It is my daughters source of income.
We have a dear friend who is a world renowned artist since the 1980's and her work is copied now all over the world because of the internet. She has a copyright attorney who does his best but it is hard when it is constant and on the other side of the world. That takes the very bread out of her mouth as that is her only source of income.
Dishonesty has become the truth of todays society.
So you can see I really do understand your feelings.
As far as a real life..of course you have one, no doubts there. You know its just these "things" happen and it gets to us because we do have lives and we don't sit around and plan how to do harm to people. We are going along nicely and all of a sudden wham we are blindsided. Oh, I have been there many times. The problem for me is figuring out how to cope with it especially when I have no control over the situation.
Well I am sure I have said enough...hope we shall be friends
PS: you can delete my posts if you like as they do take a lot of space and they were conversations between you and I.
AbbeySweet Magnolias Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05681270114340786635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-17011529967958190172012-07-19T20:25:53.811+01:002012-07-19T20:25:53.811+01:00I have just become a new follower (found you throu...I have just become a new follower (found you through streetcomber). Of course it did this because they realised that they might come under fire for encouraging sole use of the images of others. This is an extract from their last policy (the one that I had read)
"Pinterest is designed to curate and share things you love. If there is a photo or project you're proud of, pin away! However, try not to use Pinterest purely as a tool for self-promotion." I think that the policy now asks for you to "Be Authentic" because "Pinterest is an expression of who you are."
In my opinion a load of old cods wallop.
ByeeeeThe Custardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17632655608950737315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-46936332860538153052012-07-19T20:01:51.485+01:002012-07-19T20:01:51.485+01:00Thank you again for your extensive reply - the sou...Thank you again for your extensive reply - the source for my Flickr photographs is given as flickr on your site. If you click on it it would go back to my now closed site. For me it is not whether or not the source is given but that I did not want my photographs there in the first place. Conversely if I wanted to search and see if a particular flickr photograph of mine is on your site I would have no way (that I know of) of doing that. Google images does not seem to locate within the depths of Pinterest. Pinterest inform me that because there are so many flickr photographs on their site it is impossible to track them down and remove them individually - it is up to me to locate who has used them. How on earth would I know who has used them because no on has ever asked.......or even said thank you. If I were making a living from photography I would not be too happy and certainly I have been in touch with artists who see their fine work reduced to a 'free printable'. Oh dear what a sorry state.

If have found most of my photographs from flickr by chance or friends have told me that they are on your site.

I set up the blog in order to move my photographs from flickr and then, and only then, will your site remove them. Sadly that just set up another round of people then taking the images from here within a few hours of me posting them.

The fact that I have to 'protect' myself sums it all up really.
Please also bear in mind - see previous post - that I have a very full and real life.

Thank youThe Custardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17632655608950737315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-26996699535115932622012-07-19T19:40:13.769+01:002012-07-19T19:40:13.769+01:00Thank you for helping me to understand your point ...Thank you for helping me to understand your point of view. I did as most and read my ideas and emotions into your post and assumed which is not a good thing for one to do.
Pinterest is the first social network I have used. I do have a blog and am on Etsy...hmmm are they social networks too?
Anyway I am really sorry that this has caused you so much trouble.
As to taking a deep breath...As you were writing about all your frustrations...I could feel your frustration and was just trying to be kind and say take a deep breath it will be alright. I was trying to be understanding of what you were going through.
As to coveting your work or recognition....I did not mean it in a bad way. I meant you want to know who has it, how it is being used and that you care deeply about what you do. And for people to be respectful enough to ask before taking it.
I definitely agree with you about Mr. Silbermann and Co. They are in the process of changing pinterest as we speak. And it is for their benefit.
You mentioned that we are encouraged to take photos of others and not share our own...I am not sure what you mean. There are thousands of us who are crafters, designers, artists, small and large businesses, etc, etc, etc, who pin our wares on pinterest, there are thousands who pin family photos. We are all aware that they will be repinned. For a business it is a form of networking. For the individual it is a form of photo sharing. Pinterest is just free.
We recently lost both of our Golden Retreivers to old age and cancer and pinned photos with loving words in the description. Many people commented as they shared there own experience with that kind of loss also. I felt it was a good thing to share because there are so many hurting people out there that need to know there not alone. Not everyone would want to share this experience and that is okay.
I in no way am trying to defend pinterest, I'm just saying that my personal experience and that of my close friends and family have all been positive. No one has ever even hinted at taking photos without regard to whom they belong. In the Pinterest instructions we are told to give full credit to the source. You can click on ANY photo and in the upper right hand corner it will tell exactly where that photo came from. After you pin a photo and it is on your board it tells the source under the photo. I don't know if there is a way to hide the source. And there are no private boards or photos. Everything is out in the open.
Well again, I am sorry, I honestly was trying to be understanding of the situation and not demeaning or rude in any way. Understanding one another is hard even if people are speaking face to face. We all take things in differently. So when one is reading anothers thoughts and emotions and we don't hear the voice, we interpret them through our own thoughts and emotions. Usually it boils down to "well I thought you meant" and "you thought I meant".
I do hope all goes well for you and this bad experience will fade away. Please take the steps to protect what you don't want taken as unfortunately there are the few that think rules don't apply to them.
Kindest regards, AbbeySweet Magnolias Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05681270114340786635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-36611423193148356912012-07-19T18:25:01.932+01:002012-07-19T18:25:01.932+01:00Thank you for your extensive reply - for me you ar...Thank you for your extensive reply - for me you are missing several key points. I was only too happy to share all of my photographs (over 4000 of them) on Flickr - Flickr was/is a photo sharing site - where I come from we call that reciprocity. We shared images of lovely things that we had made, bought, lots of childhood memories. We exchanged many gifts between total strangers. I am very, very, very happy to share my ideas - I have emphasised this many, many times. I have shared, for free, many, many things that I make. I was not aware that whilst we were sharing our photos there that meant it was ok to take them and put them on another site. My understanding of your site is that you are encouraged to take the photos of others and not share your own things. Please correct me if I have got that wrong. I have also emphasised, many times, that if you love your site that is great for you and I am glad that it is free for you to use. I pay for my Flickr account and I have paid for that for several years. The scrapbooks that I have are carefully cut out pieces of deliciousness.....

I do not understand your comment about taking a deep breath and me realising it is okay for me not to want my photos taken - I know that already!

I am not after recognition - I quite simply just did not want my photos taken from either here or Flickr. I do not covet my work - I find that a little perplexing to be honest.

With regards to changing the description or title please see a previous post where I outline, for me, why the context is so important.

Your site has potential to make Mr Silbermann and co a great deal of money - good for them that is what they do - I do not wish/desire/seek to be any part of that capital venture thank you very much. As I said again many times you will see that I am not selling anything here - just sharing as I have always done in life.

Thank you

Kind regards
JennyThe Custardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17632655608950737315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-84176975141902397912012-07-19T18:07:47.247+01:002012-07-19T18:07:47.247+01:00This comment has been removed by the author. The Custardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17632655608950737315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-70578842785012362632012-07-19T16:44:04.686+01:002012-07-19T16:44:04.686+01:00Hello Jenny, I am one of the people on pinterest t...Hello Jenny, I am one of the people on pinterest that re-pinned your purses from another pinner. I think I can say for most [not all] of us that we were in awe of their beauty and had no intention of copy. I think the changing of the description wasn't intentional either for most pinners. We describe in our own words as to what we see, feel or know about a photo. Photos do evoke emotion and thought. Your work is so beautiful that most pinners were just wanting to share it by saying, look at this it is so awesome, this woman is really talented. I know from being a creator myself that I do stand in awe of others who have talent. Pinterest to me is just a big magazine or family scrapbook. I don't take it seriously. Most of us are older women who found something to do that is easy and fun. We just love sharing pretty things. Yes I agree with you that there are people who have other intentions and they seem to ruin the fun for others. I am sorry that this experience has been so hard on you. I do understand that many artisans do not like to share their work and they covet it greatly and that is okay. We are all different. As to Google and Pinterest...in my opinion there not much different. Pinterest has the same photos that are on Google only many times over. No one owns them it is just a big scrapbook. I am sure you have seen photos of the past where ladies and children cut pictures out of newspapers and magazines and created their own scrapbooks. These books were filled with pictures of people, places and things that the individual dreamed about and loved to look at over and over. Thats how pinterest is. We are having a big scrapbook party. Some love weddings and dream of that day and others of us remember how things were as children. And we get to share with others while we sit alone in our homes. A form of entertainment that doesn't cost money. I believe most of us would never want to hurt anyone or cause undue stress just for the sake of entertainment. Please take a very deep breath and realize it is okay for you to not want your photos shared. Please accept my apology as if it were from everyone that pinned your photos. You are a very gifted woman and we all reconized that fact. Your little purses were repinned thousands of times I am sure. Just from my board 72 people repinned them. They are so beautiful! The photo is gone from my board now which is why I searched to see what had happened and found this page. Pinterest has done as you requested and no you probably won't hear from them. We can't get answers from them either. They are very distant and unhelpful. I think their intention is to build it and then sell it like google did and etc.
Once again please accept my sincere apology for all of us and don't allow this to ruin what you do, we never intended to cause you this turmoil and pain.
There are many ways to protect photos and yet be able to post them to your blog.
Wishing you the best and may God bless, AbbeySweet Magnolias Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05681270114340786635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532409850252086723.post-56122227453621128412012-07-19T15:56:23.522+01:002012-07-19T15:56:23.522+01:00Glad you're back!
