The things that I make often do not take very long to do but what does take a fair chunk of time is all the sifting and sorting that goes on beforehand. I take an age finding the right piece of fabric that will match the right piece of embroidery. If I cannot find the right piece then away it goes until the right bit turns up - this little purse is a case in point. I must have started this about a year ago and could not find the right fabrics to match up.....then one day it appears!
I love this 50s kitten fabric - all a little surreal really
So the front is the kitten fabric and a piece of vintage embroidery and the reverse is one of those Chinese embroideries. I am not a huge fan of pink but I like how this turned out...finally. I lined this with my current favourite vintage double damask from the 1930s - I think that I will do a posting in praise of damask and all its wonders!
In case this is read I will request the usual non-posting request!
Hi dear Jenny, I love pink and this fabric is so sweet! You matched up the lovely embroidery perfectly to this piece! Love the little tin and sewing notions too! xo~ Paula.... so glad you liked my crinoline ladies! I have lots of them in vintage embroideries scattered about my sewing room. I love them!
ReplyDeleteHello lovely Jenny - love the bizarre fabric - I'm guessing the designer (maybe after 1 too many martinis) was making a visual pun on pussy willow? While rummaging in a junk shop yesterday I found a crinoline lady in a pile of neglected tablecloths and thought of you - it's just one lady on a small piece of fabric that was never white, a funny yellowish colour - I didn't feel right leaving her there, I wonder if you'd like her? She's lovely but not really my style! x
ReplyDeleteYes indeed - a little bit of lateral thinking was being used here I think! Thank you re: crinoline lady - could I please either a) make something for yourself out of it or b) make something else by way of return? Many thanks
DeleteHi Jenny - she is only a little thing, I shall send her to you and it can be a swap for something of your choice, a nice scrap of mid-century fabric or wallpaper or any little thing you think I might like. I just couldn't bring myself to abandon her to her fate! x
Deletecan you e-mail your address to me at rainbowvintagehome@googlemail.com? thanks lovely lady! x
DeleteHi Jenny, I have just seen this link, I hope it can be useful!

I am so sorry you are having problems with people pinning away, it's because your photos are so delicious! I'm grateful for you flagging it up, I had been a bit daft and not considered pinterest being abused as much as it is. Think I will be deleting my account. I sell on etsy and hadn't realised people could be taking my photos and copying my work!
Thanks for another delightful post! x
How kind of you to send this link - made for very intersting reading. I am not quite I am adept enough to add the 'thingy' into the web address 'do dah' but I will give it a go. Also realise that worse things are going on in the world but it is the principle of it for me. I also get on my high horse about much more cerebral matters! Thank you again and for kind words
