My Tufty badge from long ago - a little rusty round the back...ooooo-eeeee-rrr missus! For a while I was known as Tufty at school due to a blunt scissor hair cut!
Simple enough to make - just cut a clear piece of plastic for the front bit (the sort that is used for keeping shirt collars in place) and then you can change your picture on a daily basis and thrill viewers!
A simple flap and just curve the outer edge for a school bag type effect
Pin on your old badges..tra la la
I like how the letter rubs it in that I actually didn't win!!!
Always the bridesmaid.....
PS Many, many, many years later I was in a well known store in London and I saw a woman who I recognised - I said hello and she looked a little puzzled....'You remember' I said 'I think I looked after you when you were a patient'.....no I hadn't....it was Biddy Baxter (something again for the slightly older reader!!) You couldn't make it up.....
PPS Please see previous post regarding giveaway winners - sorry that I published the post and then decided to 'hold it back' and use it announce winners!
Many thanks as always
Best wishes
Jenny
Hello Jennifer:
ReplyDeleteoh, would we had earned the badges that you did in your youth! Clearly you were a crafty crafter even from an early age. As for us, well we did not even manage the rope tying badges in the Brownies and Scouts. Ah, well!!
Lovely to hear from you again - I am a product of the crafty 70s I think!

Wow... an actual Blue Peter badge! Loved the Four Mary's, were they in Bunty? Was an age of innocence then ... and yes I kow who Biddy Baxter is!
ReplyDeleteLovely reminiscent post xxx
Bunty indeed Claire and you may join the Biddy Baxter club (I think her name stuck because there it was at the end of every programme and I knew of no other Biddys!

Hi Jenny
ReplyDeleteI love your Tufty club badge, I was a member of the Puffin Club, and still have my badge and all my past copies of Puffin Post.
I loved your BP letter, too, and it really brought back a flood of memories because I won a prize too in that very same competition. David Cassidy read out my name on BP (he actually stumbled over it because it is quite an unusual surname) and I burst into tears because he was my absolute idol. I had no idea I'd won anything, the producers just told my parents to make sure I was watching the programme. My poster was printed and I've still got some copies...I don't think anything quite as exciting has ever happened to me since! Sorry about that torrent of reminiscence, but it is such a coincidence...
Ooooo now that is exciting - do you have a video of it by any chance (I did a quick search to see if I could find one and note that others have posted about their wins too!)

Jenny Please post a picture of your poster
It was pre-video (and we had an ancient black and white telly)but I think I know where my posters are. I'll dig one out...
DeleteOf course it was pre-video - how daft of me...I was the 'turner over' too!
DeleteI will do a post just about television I think!
I hope that you find one of your posters

Oh no, I am in the slightly older reader category. Ho hum! I love your use of belt buckles. I made a few felt/belt buckle bracelets a couple of years ago and have a few belt buckles left over. I must make some more vintage sheet bags and use the belt buckles with them. You really are a very inspiring blogger. Please could we have more photos of your vintage finds, I am sure you have only shown us a mere fraction of the hoard you have squirrelled away! (Don't worry, I have cupboards full of vintage stuff too!!) x
ReplyDeleteHow did you guess that there may be one or two more 'things' lurking in our house!! I will drip feed some more bits.....I know that I have TOO MUCH but I am not alone I think.....
DeleteHave a lovely weekend

I always wanted a Blue Peter badge but I was too shy to enter anything in case I won but in my mind my entries would always have been the best (did I mention modesty is my best feature?). Sadly I didn't have a Tufty badge either but I do still have my Bimbo Club badge. Somewhere I have a Bimbo album too. The latter has a penguin cartoon character on the cover that I remember very well but the badge has a boy in stripey jumper and school cap who I don't remember at all. I also have my Brownie badges tucked away safely. Perhaps I should get them out and re-use them. Shame to preserve everything in tissue paper. I'm sure my children won't be in the least bit interested in them. Philippa xx
ReplyDeleteI remember Bimbo - how lovely Philippa - I would love to see the album. Please do get them all out and be proud - I would wear your Brownie badges with pride
DeleteLooking forward to seeing them

What lovely memories, yes I loved Blue Peter too, I always made Vals Advent hanging candle thingy but it was never as good as hers! I am in awe of your Tufty club badge, he was such a hero, I did have a World Cup Willie badge though
ReplyDeleteThea x
Indeed Thea - we remember the year is caught fire. Don't get me started on Lulu the elephant!
DeleteI haven't thought of World Cup Willie for a goodly few years - this made me roar with laughter!

I wasn't allowed to watch much TV and certainly no ITV, so Blue Peter was a bit of a treat!
ReplyDeleteKiddos #2 & #3 won badges a few years back...#2 wanted to sell his and #3 a born collector {lawd bless her} paid the princely sum of £5 (!!) so she could have it.
I don't recognise the other badges though...

We too did not have ITV (was it only newer tellys that could get that channel or something?). Telly was rationed just like everything else! Well done with the badge trading!

Hi Jenny, this post brought back a few memories for me. I remember being given Tufty club handkerchiefs in infant school in the early 60's for Christmas presents! Never had a blue peter badge but my brother got a couple of Magpie badges in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Anne - I am going to have to spend the rest of today searching for my autograph album that has Mick from Magpies autograph - I did not really know who he was at the time!!

This was such a blast from the past. I had a Tufty badge and I loved the 4 Marys!
