Answers on a postcard please....London W12 8QT....

Thank you for all bird cage comments - weather all gone Pete Tong again today I notice! Will get myself going once the weather picks up I am sure. Also just to say that I cannot comment on a lot of blogs at the moment - or indeed access them.  Any ideas?

Just posting this to see if anyone in the blog world can help me to identify the maker of this tray please?  I bought this from Sweden so I think it is Swedish (call me Sherlock!).  Any other thoughts?  I remember seeing the same design in fabric form on Ebay once - a long time ago - maybe it is Ikea?

Can you name this tray?
Have you seen this tray in your local area?
Have you seen this  pattern in fabric form?
Do you know this fabric's name?
Are these BIRDS?????
Any information would be treated in strictest confidence and your photograph would not be required for the final line up

Call La Cootard - on: 12345 cake, cake, cake.
Terms and conditions sadly apply

'Jenny liked the juxtaposition of old and new.  In places this was indeed quite old and not really in the slightest bit new...'

Tea in the coffee cups of course

No cake sadly... .should have made a Battenberg I think.

What will Kc7, Ka8, Ra6  give you?  I think that this is right....

..it will of course be..... CHECKMATE !!  Ho ho - a little chess/vintage china joke from me to you! Not something that you are going to read in any other blog in the entire universe!!!

I look forward to the deluge of answers

PS: Did you ever write to London W12 8QT?

...I did!

  1. Wow love the tray its a very 50s pattern I am afraid I can't help with the designer but good luck with finding out who it is. As for blogger I find that signing out of blogger and then signing back in sometimes works. Have a lovely day, dee x

Regarding the fabric - no idea, but I have just spent a happy while meandering around the Husandhem site, and think they have the curtain fabric to go with your china![ http://www.husandhem.co.uk/green-blue/949-spira-jaffa-light-turquoise-swedish-fabric.html]

  8. I quite often have problems leaving comments, it just seems to freeze and won't unstick so i end up giving up! Love the tray...habitat maybe??? Want some battenburg now at the mere mention of it, with proper canary yellow marchpane!! Catx

  9. Love the tray but sadly cannot assist with its providence. At the moment my posts are not updating on followers reading lists so my blog looks a bit sad with comments and a few days ago some bits were in French! I know what you mean about the freeze - it happens to me too. I sometimes type the word verification knowing that I've done the right words and numbers and it says otherwise - so frustrating! Rant over!

    1. Subconsciously writing in French - you should be able to patent that! Those words and numbers drive me mad - as a test I deliberately put in the wrong combination and that then works!!

  10. Would if I could but I can't........help that is either with the tray or blogging. Pretty useless me. But I do love the tray. Philippa xx PS Just seen the subtitles on dear Margaret Thatcher's funeral - apparently she has gone to "hire a judgment" rather than higher judgment, and, best of all, she didn't leave office she "left coffees"! Perhaps she is on her way round to your place Jennie. xx

  13. Hello Jenny darling, thank you for flattering me with a personal invitation to this little 'name the fabric' party! I had popped over earlier but got interrupted (by child or dog - can't remember which, happens so often!) before commenting.

I am distraught to admit that (whisper it)...I don't know! Horrifying thought that a fabric as wondrous as this isn't emblazoned across my brain, selvedge and all. I will keep my eyes peeled for you though, it's gorgeous and now I've seen it I won't forget it - so I will let you know if I ever see it again, be it in 20 minutes or 20 years! It has a whiff of the wondrous Stig Lindberg about it to me, but who knows - and ARE they birds? Well, I do love a challenge...as long as it's a pattern recognition/research one, rather than some exhausting physical triathlon type thingy! I do have a few books that I want to look through to see if it's lurking in their pages, but these damn/delightful (delete as appropriate) children do insist on being fed, so I intend to sit down for a proper peruse later when I have discharged my maternal duties. Toodle pip for now! Rachel xxx

    1. Dear Rachel
Delighted to hear that you have risen to the challenge! I wish that I had kept a picture of the fabric now...it will turn up again one day. Of course it might have been made yesterday and I am barking up the wrong tree!

Have a lovely weekend with children and dog!

  18. Lovely tray, it reminds me of Marianne Westman's prints, but I don't recognise it. Did a google for vintage ikea birds tray... guess where I ended up! I wonder if Swedish junk shops are full of vintage ikea cast-offs (fantasy charity shop day dreams!)

  19. I agree with Anne (of Marmalade & Catmint) the tray design reminds me of boomerangs. Growing up in 1950s Australia, I clearly recall my mother's kitchen curtains were in a very similar fabric, and many of the laminex tables and vinyl armchairs of the Eames era were of these designs. I think it was a Scandinavian design influenced by Aboriginal art which was popular at the time.

  20. Hello Susan and thank you for that idea - I hadn't thought of that. I think that this tray has a feel of late 50s/early 60s about it. I will do a bit more sleuthing!

  23. I do wish I could help, but sadly I don't know any more than you. I do think they look more like boomerangs than birds, however. If I ever see that pattern anywhere I will think of this post and let you know!
