If Spring won't come to us then we must go to Spring!!

Revamped bird cage to cheer us up in the cold weather

My next door neighbour donated some artificial grass for the 'cause'!

A slightly unusual bird (from the 40s/30s I think)

Cage door left open so that bird is free to come and go

This is how my bird cage started out.....

Dom kindly glued some of the bamboo bits back in to place

Blue tits have been sniffing around our real bird box (seen behind) but the cold has  put them right off I think.  To compensate I had to make this

£4 worth of cheer

Adding in some real blossom from my neighbour's garden

Surely Spring is on its way....

There was a little bit of sunshine in the garden the other day - everything went a little crazy for a few hours and the Blue Tits and Blackbirds arrived....

They were certainly thinking about moving in....

This was through the kitchen window - so a little hazy

 Maybe next year....

Fierce Blackbird

 A very hardworking Blackbird

 She never gave up

Triumphant!!!

Embroidery saves the day again

I think that this is the first embroidery that I ever owned (so fond that I take a photo of it every Spring)  - given to me by my  mum when I was about 13/14 I think

PS -Sorry that I have lost blogging 'umph' of late - mixture of reasons....am sure 'umph' will return...eventually.

  4. Well I really do feel like spring has sprung now with your lovely pics. Are you going to hang it outside? I am wondering what will happen if it gets 'taken over' by real birds.
Glad you are back, enjoy your weekend Jenny!

  13. A lovely post! an amazing transformation of the cage, am loving the blue ... also loving the neighbours blossom - that is a cheery sight ... hope the wind doesn't blow it all off - howling here at the moment. The bluebird cloth is charming and I can see why you are so fond of it. The blackbird with the beak brimming in nesting bits has made my day .... so sweet.

  15. Hello there Lovely! Tis a beautiful bird cage, I think that little bird will be very happy living there! Well I thought Spring had abandoned us too but yesterday I went out into the garden and sure enough, it's there! I just still needed my woollies on whilst I pottered! Everything is behind but it's all starting to wake up! Love those little embroidery birds too! :) x

  17. I'm loving all the bird activity, my blackbirds are on their second brood, the first, sadly, not making it pass egg stage... but I do have tadpoles in both ponds!! Lovely bright bird cage... fabulous and abundant blossom. As a thought Jenny, it might be an idea to move the feeder away from the nest box if that is possible... tits are rather territorial and aren't going to like visiting feeders. Cx

  26. I like watching birds go about their business. I just like birds really. Not seagulls and pigeons so much - nor magpies and crows - but even they can be fascinating to observe - the gulls have proper attitude. I watched a gull doing crazy things to my neighbour's new, shiny, silver and black car..this mad bird was on the bonnet, using it as a slide....waddling up to the top then slip-sliding down down down, at the end falling off the edge onto the bumper then peering at it's reflection, then hopping back up and...repeat - over and over and over. It was hilarious.

Fabulous birdcage and magical bird embroidery.

  29. Really pretty bird cage re-do! It looks especially beautiful with that embroidered bird linen. Love the pear blossoms, too. I have one of those in my front yard, and it's in full bloom right now. (I wish they smelled as pretty as they look.)
Good questions about my paperdolls- I honestly do not know how many I have. I have never counted them. Lucky for me, this collection does not take up much storage space, because they are all flat. (one storage box and three binders on a shelf, and that's it.) I love them all, but my favorite is the one my Grandmother gave me when I was a little girl. (The first doll pictured on my paperdoll page.)
