You know that you have a problem when...

....your purse matches your kitchen....

This is some marvellouso Bernard Wardle fabric from the 1950s.  Could I please ask that if you should ever see me buying fabric  you remind me that I do not NEED any more.....

I love colour and I also love black and white....

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.....

Many thanks as always for your kind words - it is very much appreciated.  Just a note to ask Laurie-Jane to get in touch if possible - sorry that I cannot find a way to contact your good self -  your purse is waiting for you after winning the giveaway prize!

  1. Oh Jenny you're such a sweetie - I love that your purse matches your kitchen! I was just thinking exactly the same thing about fabric; I was contemplating popping over to Ebay to scout for bargains, then remembered my overflowing cupboard upstairs...today's is a day for sewing with what I've already got, not adding to it! Hope you have a great weekend lovely lady. Rachel xx

    1. Ah yes indeed - I remember that 70s/80s black and white thing - we had lots of black ash furniture at around that time I recall. Things are a little different in our house now
      Have a lovely day

  5. Just tell me- is your sugar jar full of sugar?
I have a lovely vintage Hornsea biscuit jar, but it is so huge [and I'm avoiding biscuits] that I fill it with breakfast cereal instead.
Is this wrong? Should I feel guilty?

    1. Ah Angela - I do have one or two sugar jars and they get rotated round for sugary purposes. So this one has been used for sugar in the past but currently lives in my sewing room housing threads of various colours (not black or white!). One day it will find itself back in the kitchen I am sure. Filling jars with objet other than its original intention is fine and you are forgiven for it!

  6. I think its a very good problem to have!

I hit really lucky at the local flea market yesterday and got a few Midwinter pieces in oranges and browns, very autumnal. This I hope will be the start of a collection. I have so loved reading blogs like yours I really want to start a "mid century" collection as it all reminds me so much of when I was growing up.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Many thanks Helen - those pieces sound lovely and it is good to have seasonal china/fabric etc! Some may think it is a little crazy but it all makes perfect sense to me. Ah...nostalgia..

  7. Hello:
What fun your 1950s style purse looks to be. The fabric is great fun and what a brilliant idea to line it with dotty material. Surely even when carrying out the less than happy task of paying for something, just one look inside your jolly purse will bring a smile to the face!!!!

    1. Indeed Jane and Lance - the sting in the tail is having to actually pay for something so let us do with a cheery look on our faces!

    1. Aw - many thanks Claire - it was only tidy like that for one day . The only other time I have known such tidiness was when we were selling our house in London - luckily it sold on the first day because I could not bear the pressure!

  9. He he, if you ever do as I do and lose your purse somewhere in the house it could become more of a problem when it camouflages with rooms in your home! Such lovely colours though and the black and white is so striking too.

  11. As always Jenny your home and the things you make with vintage fabrics are so inspirational. "Enough fabric"? I'm sorry but those two words don't belong in the same sentence as far as I am concerned. Is it a stash or is it a collection? One makes use of a stash but if one is building a collection then obviously one has to keep adding to it! Have a great weekend. Philippa xx

    1. Dear Philippa
The 'adding' is becoming a little bit (understatement) of an issue and I sense that a little bit more 'using' needs to take place. It is a hard thing to do sometimes don't you think? We cannot help ourselves can we!

  12. Those B&W canisters!! Wonderful. Fab and droolworthy.

Nice purse too - neat job - mine always look ridiculously lopsided and the glue shows and so I've not made any for a while. I hate messy crafts. But yours is divine. Gorgeous fabric.

    1. Dear wendz - plenty of lop sided purses have been created in our house. I could cry because I have wasted some lovely fabrics by having cock-eyed eyes!! Oh dear!
