New pop up vintage shop in town!

Ho ho - did you see what I did there? My shop has popped up in my old trunk!

In order to complete the pop up shop I am going to add some writing to the inside of my trunk lid and tra la la there you have it!  I have been kindly asked if I might have a stall at a local vintage fair so started to collect some bits together.  The usual dilemmas regarding a) would it be good enough b) what style/era to go for.

So these photos only show one possible 'genre' (fancy!) - I could not decide on just embroidered linens, just fabrics, just 1960s/70s, just children's,  just books, just things that I have made.....

So here is the first version of the pop up shop - I must add an apology in here.  At Christmas I thought that I had sold a tin that had purses and assortments in by mistake....I was sorting through some old suitcases today and found them all in there.  Humble apologies though that tin did have some nice badges in...

So I have been able to add some embroidered purses and miles of vintage hand embroidered bunting into the mix.  Sifting through the 'Cupboard of Wonders'  and taking a hard look at children's things - we have enjoyed them all over the years but time to move I think.

Too fuddy duddy?

See - an entire shop housed in an old suitcase - ruddy marvellous (the idea not the contents!)

Pity that it is a little too heavy to fit onto my bike - how delicious it would all look together and then I could tra la la along the sea front plying my wares (steady...)

Just need to add a bit of trim to the edges and during the night I thought of fixing in a little shelf into the lid.....don't worry I have thought it through. In my head everything always looks great - the reality often sadly differs.

Thank you as always for not posting elsewhere (Pinterest take note)

Thoughts and comment gratefully received as always

Coming up next week....how to recover a recovered trunk....

    1. Ah yes Sewtasty - I too have two daughters and realise that I am in no position to say to Bronte, in particular, that her room is beginning to look like a jumble sale (of the old fashioned variety!). The fayre is in Chichester on the 21st of July - I will be bringing along 'tut' aplenty......oh dear...oh dear....oh dear....

    1. Many thanks - the nation has risen to the cheeriness of bunting in the last decade or so I think!

  3. Your stuff is lovely for the vintage fair ... mind you, the idea of trundling along the seafront selling your wares from your bike is a great idea! I'd stop you and buy one! Have a lovely week, Claire xxx

    1. Many thanks - ideas aplenty in my head but all too often not enough translation in action sadly!

  5. A wonderfully vision of cheerfulness. I love it. I seem to have a similar problem with collecting things because they are lovely to look at, possibly useful, previously useful but now a little defunct, unnecessary to have but somehow impossible to walk away from, or "an absolute bargain"! But the thought of getting rid of any of it brings waves of anticipated regret. He-who-likes-to-think-he-must-be-obeyed keeps finding things squirreled away in cupboards so I fear a cull might be forthcoming. I shall put it off as long as possible mind you. Philippa.

    1. Ho ho - this made me chuckle and of course also identify 100% with your thought. I too have 'categorise' purchases (that bargain one being the one most often used - half the time I am not so sure that it is but it appeases my sensibilities!). I do have some regrets about things I have sold but sadly this is also why I have duplicates/triplicates (yikes!!!) of many of my things - an heir and a spare....Dom too has discovered 'some' things in cupboards (cupboards which I honestly thought he never ventured into) and I rapidly promise that it is all part of my shopping emporium....oh dear as always!!

    1. Hello Karen - we are in the minority but I shall wave my little flag of independence!!If I were a business I am sure that I would think differently but this blog and flickr are my mechanisms for soaking up self-centred praise (oh dear mother would not be pleased at such self indulgence!). Thank you for your kind words Karen I hope that the sun is shining in Germany today.

  7. Hello. I love all of your vintage makes and finds. Hoping you can help me. I am looking for a tutorial and pattern to sew straight edge clip purses. I have been given a purse clip frame but am having trouble finding a tutorial. Your little purses made from embroidery are just gorgeous.

    1. Hello and thank you - I first made these some time ago and got a book from the library to learn how to make them (they were sew in ones then, not glued). The U-handbag tutorial is a good one - though as each frame is a different shape a new pattern has to be created for each one. I made many different patterns and made them up out of lining fabric to 'test' which looked the best. I loved all those embroidery ones and was sad to see the go - some of them had embroidery on the inside as well. If it would be useful I could try and put a tutorial together but not sure I am the best teacher though!
