Izzy whizzy, let's get busy....and lovely to meet up with you....sunny days.

To be honest I am a little bit tired now - going to bed later and later...getting up earlier and earlier.  Never mind because more can be shoe horned into those 24 hours (I do sit down and enjoy the garden though). Welcome abroad to new readers - I am trying to concoct some sort of internet treasure hunt (using the Chalky White theme) with a prize at the end for the winner - that would be such a hooooooot!

It was just sooooooooppppppppeeeeerrrr to meet up with lovely ladies yesterday - at least I laughed (did you just think that I was a bit...well....... weird?)  I had a lovely time.......went home with most of what I bought with me.....but had a lovely time.  It was top stuff when....and I had been eyeing up the door trying to second guess who might be a 'Chalky Whiter'.....a woman approached my stall.....looked down a little shyly......dead straight face.......not a flicker of a smile...........said those immortal words....'Your name is Chalky White and I claim my prize'.....I cannot tell you how absolutely super brilliant and ruddy marvellous I thought that was (you might have gauged that from my reaction though....).  Lisa that made my day I cannot tell  you.   Your cakes and biscuits were super too.  Lovely to meet you and your daughter - sorry that I went on a bit (.......a bit.....).  I will do a separate post about the other lovely ladies that I met I think.  Decided that I will do a car boot next week as IT IS NOT COMING BACK IN THE HOUSE!!!  Throughout the day I laughed like a drain..

Today I popped out to the local car boot (I seldom arrive before 10 - not sure why as I am up early enough!).  Set off thinking how I should not buy a thing (apart from any nice plants I thought).....most of  earnings from yesterday spent....

So I bought a nice basket (see here for basket needage: http://thecustards.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/my-baskets-brimeth-over.html), a nice tin (see here for tin needagehttp://thecustards.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/my-sewing-room-not-so-tidy-today.html ), a wooden doll (see here for doll needage:http://thecustards.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=jubilee ) and a couple of old books....also (and isn't it funny how things turn out) a Tweed flat cap (Ren I bought this for one of your lads if you would like it).

So I set my self a challenge today and I am going to set up a business model based on my super duper idea (thank you to Polka Dot House for your entrepreneurial skill and staggering business acumen - you know who you are!!.) .  From this day onwards anything that I buy has to pressed into use or upcycled/recycled/mended/bended/sewn/mown/eaten/beaten...you get the idea............. by the end of the day.  The 24 hour challenge has been set.  Within 45 minutes I began to wonder why the heck I had thought of that idea ....

So the basket - I thought that I would line it (have done this a few times and they usually turn out quite nice) so here it is in progress...

The usual sophisticated approach to pattern making - cough, cough...

Are you getting a bit fed up of this fabric?  You might recall that I was given two of these old bed covers earlier on the year from a charity shop manager - I still have a complete one left and lots of this fabric.

Accessories....I did not buy these today...that's me leaning out of the window...

Just in time for Sunday afternoon tea....tra la la..

I also bought (special treat - as it was £15!!! Bang goes half the profit from yesterday already...) a Lloyd Loom table - lovely colour I thought.  Dom says that one of our 'lovely little tables' has to go...

Maille made us some lovely banana smoothies so the table was very handy here

I lurve these colours

Double usage for table as it also served well for afternoon tea....

Blue sky for a change

Thank you as always for lovely comments.   Just off to the beach for evening stroll along the prom, prom, prom and maybe an ice cream to finish off a tiring but lovely weekend.

Best wishes and I hope that all was sunny in your part of the world

Tra la la, fiddle dee dee, off I go, it is ice cream for me!!

PS: The books have been read and the dolls came for tea....phew they all get to survive another day!

  1. Not tired of that blue rose fabric - it's wonderful. You know what else I've spotted and love to bits? That brown and turquoise cross hatch fabric covering your chair behind the basket..now THAT's absolutely brilliant. I have a thing for crosshatch - on fabric and on pottery. Can't get enough of it.

Well done for making money at your fair even if you did spend half of it today..why not? You earned it.

That's a lovely teapot too by the way.

I scored some vintage sheets at a boot sale this morning - two sheets and two pillowcases - I could not believe it. So pretty too. Tomorrow they'll be washed - it's supposed to be hot and sunny all day so they will get a good drying on the outside line.

Hope you enjoyed your beach walk and ice cream. We also went down to the beach - the Red Arrows were doing their thing over Hastings and we went up a nearby hill on the seafront and sat and watched it from afar. Such a gorgeous evening too.

    1. Hurray with the sheet purchases - sheets and curtains are always good buys because there is sooo much fabricos in them. A good day for washing I think. How lovely to see the Red Arrows - watching them makes me cry unashamdly (especially when they do that big arrow in the sky) - it is good to be beside the sea on days like this. That fabric is NEW Orla Kieley fabric - I bought a scrap of it for this chair and a couple of cushions - not like me to buy new! Good days

  2. Oh the Homemaker plate. How I yearn for one of those!
I thoroughly approve of the 24 hour challenge.
I'm not that brave- considering a three day rule instead.

Hasnt the sun been wonderful this weekend??

    1. Lovely sun indeed. Re: homemaker - there was a little pile of these at the car boot and I didn't ask the price because nowadays I always assume that anything well know will be pricey. If the plates are still there next week shall I ask? What would be a good price - any ideas? This plate is my youngest daughter's favourite and gets used every single day!

  3. The basket is SO SWEET! Just adorable but how did you get the fabric attached to the basket? I think I need the 24 hr challenge! My husband has asked me not to buy anymore junk ( forgive him, he doesn't know what he's saying!) until I have cleared the shed and bedroom! Ada :)

    1. Many thanks Ada - see here for the big reveal http://thecustards.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/my-baskets-brimeth-over.html - I have made lots of these over the years (easter bunny ones, Christmas one and so on). Lots of use for sheets here I think! Please let me know how they turn out.
You are not alone with your 'man problem' - what can we do! Dom instigated a strict 'one in two out' policy some time ago and the wardrobe and under the bed are stuffed!!!
      Yikes

    2. If you come along tomorrow Jenny you may like my 'new' vintage glass pedestal bonbon bowl....although knowing how popular the glassware is it may be one of the first bits to go so I will take a piccy of it to show you. Claire x

  5. Goodness, 24hrs to work on something you buy? You are definitely more motivated than me, I bow down to you! My son and I did our first car boot sale, up at some ridiculous hour and found one outside of Blackpool. I spent £10 of our profits on a lovely vintage sewing box on legs (probably 1950s) and I intend to recover it to make it a bit prettier. I'll leave the inside as it is as although a bit shabby, it's got its own charm. But the outside doesn't look original in any case. But I have been sooooo exhausted since getting home, it's a job for another day!!

I love your little doll, I think I had one of those as a child, very sweet. I almost got tempted by a Lloyd Loom chair but thought hubby might murder me as I'm supposed to be decluttering rather than recluttering ;-)

    1. Ah yes it is all about re-living our childhoods I think. I am on a constant de-clutter but then something else comes in through the back door.....

  6. It was obviously a good day for car boots yesterday. I went to my first one in years and I went very late in the morning in the hope that there would be less to tempt me. Even so I still came away with 2 delightful cloth books, a coloured glass bon bon dish, Edward VIII coronation mug, one of those things that looks like a cake stand but it has a bowl rather than a flat top in green glass (senility has blocked the recall of its name for the moment) and an Isle of Wight tea towel. All this for £8 - marvellous. Of course the temptation will be to go again...just in case....!

Good luck with you 24-hour rule. How much are you allowing for contemplationa/admiration/touching and feeling each item? Philippa xx

    1. Ah - glad to see that you are back in car boot land. Sounds like a very good haul indeed. IOW tea towel - do post a photo if you can. It is the fatal combination of something very nice and very cheap that does it don't you think! If you don't go just think what you might be missing out on....oh dear
The contemplation/admiration/touching/feeling is the rest of the lifetime that they are with you I guess!

  7. I'm so glad you had fun at the vintage do on Saturday, I'm sorry and sad I didn't make it... got up too early to go to a bootsale then got a migraine! So missed your lovely wares, will you go again? or do I need to find a tracking pigeon to locate you at this bootie? ( is there such a thing indeed?)
What a lovely post dear Jenny... super little table, tin, the basket looks great, I found a wicker hamper that I want to line last w/e but am still plucking up courage to start it... oh for your energy and sewing skills! And what a sweet teapot cover... Cass

    1. We will meet up Cass - soon I hope. Please do line the hamper - do you need any fabric????? Mine are never done too fancy - a rough and ready pattern will be fine. Ah - my favourite teapot - when I bought it it had never been used - one brew of tea and it was stained to high heaven.....

  9. Hi Jenny,

It was brilliant to meet you yesterday aka Chalkie White!

You were lovely, and no you didn't go on at all, my daughter and I could have chatted all day. We were conscious that we were blocking your stall. My daughter and I were thrilled with our 'prizes'. We will make up her bunting tonight. She also loves her purse!

Thank you for your secret tip for printing on fabric.....I have this morning run up 3 cushions printed with pictures from hubby's favourite tv series. It's his birthday on Friday, hope he likes them. He is sooooo difficult to buy for, he has everything.

Will give the fabric another go, hopefully with a few less fabric jams and inky fingers.

Next project ( after seeing your post above) is to line a basket for my other daughter, she is expecting in September and want to do gift basket with baby goodies...

Hope to meet you again, thank you again and your stall looked lovely.

  11. Hello, Hello! All the above has made me smile, thankyou for thinking of me when you saw the tweed cap, i will get my sons measurements :) I have felt very inspired to try some new things since our chat, but cannot remember the name of the product i need to print onto fabric? Would love to meet up for a few sewing tips if you ever have time? I think the tin from your stall will be the first of many for me. I already have many baskets and i think i might try and line one now inspired from your idea above! xxx Ren

    1. No problem Ren. I will send an email with further top tips! Tin collecting is a dangerous road......Please do give a basket a makeover - easy to do but sooooo effective I think. I am really glad that you want to make some more things - that is what this blog is all about really.

Hope to meet up again Ren and we can have a proper natter
